what I want to be for Halloween Maybe it’s the Asperger’s syndrome, perhaps I’m just a huge jerk, but this year I really want go as cultural appropriation Halloween. How would you do that? those of you with a sense of humor might ask me. Well, I have a vague idea: I would wear a sombrero appropriate Mexican culture. I would wear a kimono appropriate Japanese culture. I would do my hair in corn rows appropriate Black culture. I would wear clogs appropriate Danish culture. I would wear a sports jersey under my kimono a team called “the Indians” “the Braves” so I could appropriate Native American culture. I would don a grass skirt appropriate Polynesian culture. If I put chopsticks in my hair I could also appropriate Chinese culture. This is SATIRE so hopefully you read it that way and haven’t managed start frothing at the mouth with rage. What I want Halloween is everyone be safe and have a good time, but in this day and age your good time is almost certainly at the expense of someone else’s. No grooming wardrobe decision goes unscrutinized, and that includes the last day of October. I actually think Halloween is a chance people be a less p.c. because of the whole anonymity thing, so I say go it. It’s okay piss people off with your costume choice if they don’t know who you are. Be brave and disguise yourself as pimps and hookers, cowboys and Indians, fucking Moana if you want. I salute you.  |
