wool, I got this spinning wheel. A very nice lady just gave it to me. The woman to whom it belonged could no longer work with it, she was getting more and more demented. That woman and her husband were emptying this friend her apartment, she did need daily care, could not live on her own anymore... i like old crafts very much. So i did learn how to spin wool, but it has been a while... This monday i am going to buy some wool again and start spinning. iit is very therapeutic, if you can find the peace for it!  It creates a real empty head, no more thinking, no more random "thoughts" that are going nowhere! |

I well remember holding my arms out for my mother as she " unwinded " wool BITD !!!!!

When I was kid my two grandmothers made our sock, mitts, scarves, which were greatly appreciated during the winter walks to school. One of my aunts had a wheel, she did some with. All things at the time that were out of my interest zone.

I used to have my Great-Great Grandma's spinning wheel, I learned to use it and repaired a Navajo rug with the yarn. Not sure who in the family has it now. Maybe I should make a new one.

drmgirl, It is not for every one, to do.... I am from the school, that believesthat you could almost learn anything, if you set your heart and soul to it... if it has your interest.

brandy, Well, actually it is rather "newish", its origine is German, i believe. I wanted to put a picture on... but my phone had other ideas.. alas

jdm, Yes, home knitted socks and all that, are a far better quality then the stuff you can buy nowadays.....
