Needles, No! not those, some use in a bdsm play scene. I mean the needles from my LARCH. every autumn this tree drops his needles... The whole ground around that tree,is full with needles. So, cutting down branches, was like being attacked by those needles. I even have them inside my working boots!! 🤣😄 This year will be the last year with such a nice carpet of needles.😭😱😳😣 Although i believe those needles are not really healthy for the soil. Now, i have to think of, what kind of bush i want to put in its place.... Something the birds like, can hide in, maybe even have some bird berries?! Or first, let it be..... see what happens.... It is such a big empty spot!! 8 |

The only needles i like, are acupuncture needles. 8

I believe it is the only deciduous conifer in north america. So it will make a mess every fall. They tend to change the pH of the soil around the tree. They are magnificent once mature (such as the owner of this blog).

shelter and food for birds is always a good thing. As long as you avoid pigeons...

melt, Wow that is one nasty piece of tree, although the name is beautiful. The Larch is like a christmas tree, when you compare the needles. Not the shape of the tree. The tree is only much much bigger! growing like crazy! 😄 The tree is poisoned for birds, i believe. Wont make tea from the needles!🤢

boh, Pigeons want to eat too... alas, crows too.... i like crows, they are very smart!

Perhaps talk with a local garden center and see if you can determine what is native to your area to benefit the bird and such, and will fit within your landscape.

actually Rosa needles are a good mulch for the garden eventually it breaks down & becomes good rich topsoil! butterfly Bush winterberry bush service berry or viburnum bush all good candidates for birds w flowers & fruit!

footer, So it does!i did not mind, because the tree was soo beautiful! 😍cleaned most of the needles out of the way, every year.

bdsmd, Not all needles,this kind makes the soil acid, i believe.. Only soaproot grows under the larch.. I have to work in making the soil more healthy again.. more in balance
| ||

electro, Soaproot loves to grow under my Larch... They really did? Some pine trees have seeds, you can eat? You can wash out the tannin in acorns, make some sort of flour, and eat it, make pancakes...and such... Thank you, i love to learn more about nature, and how it can provide food...😊

Yes, i know those funges are growing, like mad, in the ground, have a lot of thread in the ground, helping each other, growing and make each other stronger, healtier...i believe. When there is a good balance in the soil. That is also why nobody should hoe the ground! Killing those threads all the time!! killing the micro life in the ground, time and time again. it is soo old fashion!! Nature is not neat, so why should you make your garden neat!? Killing the balance, time and time again! I have to put some balance in my garden again, on the spot were the tree stood... Use some manure, from a petting zoo.... permaculture..... No chemicals in there!

bdsmd, Thanks for the advice, i used comfrey, let them rot in water, smells like a dead dog! Nasty!! and used it to feed to soil. Lime is good, too!

electros, I loove permaculture, it feels so natural to help, work with nature, instead of trying to drill it into something out of a very fancy garden book.... This year, again, all my vegies died, or were eaten by the slugs! I had soo many! It drove me mad and very sad, too All my hard work, gone! No vegies at all I had some berries, blackberries, and gooseberries, this year... Oh, that is good, that you used the fence to let the cucumbers and tomatos grow. Yeah, a coma makes a big imprint in your life, can change a lot of things... easy things.... too Learning all over again!

electros, Yes, long, long time ago, farmers overhere, did burn their lands too, Or let it lay barren, so it could repair itself.... Get their nutritions out of the air... or such...? that was the time, before all those agriculture poisons became popular.
