Christmas,

The thrift shop is also selling all kind of Christmas stuff.
So, they have a lot of fake Christmas trees...

Some men try to assemble those trees.
One guy, had put on such a christmas bonnet.

He is very small, and he sat on the floor among all those half assembled trees

It was such a funny sight, i told him; you look great! with that bonnet among all those trees!
W, one of the staff, was around too, and he too, saw the humor of it!

Christmas are the worst days of the year, for me.
With this SAD thing....
December is the worst time of the year and March/ April
....
I become a bit hopefull, for some lighter days, more sunshine...
and BAM, the weather turns again and we are back at square one!

What are you doing, with those festive days?

I will crawl under the blankets and sleep!!
Put a lot of candles on, listen to the radio.. read a book...
Hibernation, if i could.......

Hi, Rosa. Has the Christmas season always been that way for you, the feeling that those are the worst days of the year? Just wondering...
I enjoy the Season, the lights and decorations, folks singing Christmas carols, the excitement in the faces of children, etc. and the celebration of the birth of Christ, Midnight Mass, and a HOPE that mankind, throughout the world will one day TRULY strive for "PEACE ON EARTH, and GOODWILL TO ALL MANKIND!"...
Of course, 'crawling under a blanket' (with someone I love and care about) while listening to the radio or reading a book by candle light with that special someone, or 'Hibernating' with them doesn't sound to terrible, either!!!

The weather here just turned cold, at least for the next week. Since my mom passed xmas just don't seem the same. I miss that close family time. I was going thru old pics the other day, and found one with me and my brother's kids. Back when they were little still at Xmas time. That brought back great memories, their all grown now with kids of their own. My my how time flies.

My Christmas tree has been up and decoratedsince mid-September. I still enjoy the Holidays, to a point, but they are no where near as they used to be. It will be my mom and I again on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day and that is it. The Holidays are a far cry from what they used to be, Christmas Eve always being the bigger of the two days. The family was much bigger back then and the traditional Italian fish dinner was something to look forward. I don't get as excited as I used to for the Holidays, it's almost just another period of time to get through. I can say I will live in the memories of the past as usual, looking at old photos and video of those times, and smiling about the memories.

I enjoy the holidays and, in fact, the employer that I retired from has invited me to the annual Christmas party.

I'm honestly over christmas..

The stores build it up for months...your stressed with trying to find something special..
Meanwhile I literally don't want any gifts..

You spend way too much money...

And then..your fucked with 2 to maybe 3 dark, cold, snowy ,months

Before spring..

I agree with the hibernation theory..

But since I cant...

I officially call Christmas like the 12th...I say I can't stand the stress..am not gonna look for any more gifts..
And just coast into c hristmas

BillywildMartin,

In my family, there was never any safety, mental or physical.
Christmas was never really nice.
The one, others call mother, was not a mental stable person, to say the least.
It were other times, she never was diagnosed, or talked about..

Ever since i got to the age of 'being a woman', this Seasonal Affective Disorder came about.
it has to do with a imbalance in the chemicals of the brains... mine, in this case.
It gets 'activated' with the beginning or the hormonal change in some persons.
So, around the age of 14/15 i got S.A.D..
I just dont get enough day/sunlight, this has a very big influence on my daily level of energy... and on my state of mind, being tired all the time.

So, no, i dont like those dark, dark days of Christmas.
It makes me depressed like hell.
Nowadays i can handle it a bit better, but still dont like those months, untill, say.. May... Then life starts again, for me...

I tried every kind of medication, those daylight lamps, too, herbal or otherwise, i could get my hands on, to remedy this, nothing worked.

Only when i lived in Spain/ Portugal, i did not have SAD at all.

Oh, yeah, together, with someone special, under the blankets is something i would enjoy very much, reading, cuddling, too

bikerforslut,
The whole commercial thing, they made out of Christmas, is something i truely dont like.
I dont nééd presents.
I understand, if you have good memories about those days, when they are really family days, then, you can miss those days, very deeply.

I dont have those memories of Christmas, at all.
I believe there is one photo of a Christmas gathering... shudders...

I liked Christmas when my child was little, her happyness, her joy about all the presents and the food, she had to choose, and the tree, she was allowed to decorate.
But that was about her happiness, about those days.

Rope,
Since mid September!! My, oh, My!
I do hope you enjoy the tree very much!!

Aah, an Italian Fish dinner, that must have been great!

I always bought a real tree, with roots, to be put in my garden, after Christmas
that was always a ritual with my child.
I love the smell of the Christmas tree in my house.
I am just not that sentimental or attached? about those dark days...
Never had much meaning for me.
I hope you create some nice days for yourself, with nice food, some wine maybe, or visiting some dear friends?

likematures,
Your respons made me laugh out loud.

I dont do Christmas anymore, i try to enjoy those days, make something nice, special to eat, and drink.
Try not to stay too long in bed, because then, my day/night rhythm is kaput. that is very bad for my SAD.
Try to be outside, a bit, but if it is very cold, i cant stand being outside.
Just wait it out, untill May....
try to stay out of reach of all those people, who really think, Christmas is thé time of the year!!
NOT, for me.

Eh, not really a fan of the festivities any longer. This year I will be away on vacation and will return on New Year's Day to start anew with 2024. While I still kinda enjoy Christmas lights, I don't know that I will see many this year.

Hang in there, friend. October is that sad time for me. While I'm not particularly superstitious, most of the bad things that have ever happened in my life have been in October. Weird... I'm thankful other than a concerning result from some medical tests, this year has been relatively quiet. Two more days to go.

I will do my very best....with some bad days in between....
I am glad for every sunny day, or hour......

I, now, sort of, accept that i am grumpy, have a very short fuse.
Cant handle people, very well, anymore

Just leave me alone! kind of attitude!
Nó, i dont like those dark days !
And, please, please! dont try to be "understanding", because you cant!!
smiles......sweetly

Sorry to hear that, Rosa, I, of course, didn't know about your S.A.D., that has to be difficult when the days are shorter in the dead of Winter coupled with the dark grays of the landscape, and overcast skies that generally accompany the Winter months.
I DO get tired of the cold, wet/snowy conditions that the Winter months bring, and never liked the 'short days' when I was working, as SOME of the work I did would require me to work outside, and made me a BIT anxious when trying to complete the outdoor tasks before the evening darkness arrived.
I'm guessing that 'settling' somewhere south of your current location is just not a feasible alternative for you (you mentioned living in Spain/Portugal and not suffering from SAD). I think Americans (me included) think that most of Europe has the same basic climate conditions that we have here, when the REALITY is that a great deal of the European Continent is WELL north of the Longitude of the majority of the United States, and therefore, have colder, 'darker' Winters, with more snow and rain than here. My daughter and son-in-law and their family moved to Germany 7 or 8 years ago, and she was mildly surprised of how 'different' the seasons are there, where they live, compared to where they were living here before they moved...
I'm hoping to get over there to visit sometime in the coming year, haven't been to visit them since they moved, but they have been back here a few times, so, I have had the opportunity to see them in the time they've been gone. We'll see, there's always minor 'glitches/hiccups' that pop up and TRY to deter the efforts, but I'm fully invested in making it happen.

Thank you,
every year, again, it is Hell, untill May... sometimes...
the North of the Netherlands, has been a swamp country
too much moisture.....

That is why i want to move to South France/ Spain/ Portugal, there i dont have S.A.D. at all.
300 days of sunshine!! In South Portugal.

The real sunny days, months, in Europe starts from midth France, Italy, Spain, Greece,

Everything above that line, is cold, dark, rainy, damp... overcasted horror weather, for a S.A.D. person.

Aah, it would be nice if you could visit them!I hope everything works with you, so you can visit them.
Yes, life has his tricks, sometimes....
I will keep my fingers crossed, for you.
