Storm ciarán, Because the weather is rather dull, overhere in Holland. Not like in the US, with all those terrific storms, thunder and all that beauty..... So, when a storm hits our coast, people all over Holland, go crazy. every one is falling over each other in claiming how dangerous this one, will be. Sooo tiresome, hysterical behaviour... So, we had alarm fase orange today..... Only on the west coast and Zeeland did get a full blast... So, some trees died, so far one person too. Some big trucks (empty) fall over! on their side... The truckdriver is oke. There where some places where the light went out.... The drama! I love stormy weathers, i love to go outside. On my bike, and see how far i come.... I can always walk, when the windforce is too big.... I did plan to go to the forest and go on my bike. There were other things to do, first, so no bike ride in the woods, alas. |

"So, when a storm hits our coast, people all over Holland, go crazy. every one is falling over each other in claiming how dangerous this one, will be. Sooo tiresome, hysterical behaviour..." Yes, that's the way things are here in the US. It's not so much a weather "forecast", but more like a weather "panic cast".

My brother sat through a category 5 hurricane that made landfall 10 miles from his house, completely destroying hundreds of homes, washing huge sailboats and powerboats ashore, devastating the beaches along the shoreline and taking down building or tearing off the roofs of the local businesses. You definitely don't want to be walking around in a hurricane, not only because of the associated wind, rain and lightning, but all the flying debris traveling at well over 100 mph! I'm SURE you've seen photos of the plastic drinking straw that was found embedded into the truck of a tree a few inches from the wind after a hurricane...it's not nice to challenge 'Mother Nature' and all her FURY!!!

We've been promised some nasty weather too - I'm just sad that I can't go for my evening walk tonight, but others aren't so lucky. Looks OK tomorrow so I'll check for damage then. D-J x

Yes, here in Europe we don't have large-scale hurricanes. What we have is just a miniature version of it but mostly not so dangerous except in 1-2 cases but those are not frequent.

hungaroboy, That is what i mean. Alright, due to climate change, the weather is getting crazier, all the time, spring storms is something new. The weather in Spain was much more dramatic. They are used to electricity fall out, and damage from storms. Dont act so hysterical, as here in Holland. They just clean up, and put things in a safe place and wait it out.
