Four times in my life I have been seductively invited to a world of serious drug addiction. The most stylish of these periods was when as a I dated an aristocratic TV reporter who had unlimited access to really fine cocaine. I've always liked my nose. I'm glad I still have it.

Two of the other times were strictly medicinal, but no less serious. One was when I was 12 years of age and diagnosed with a degenerative bone condition, first in my knees, then apparently everywhere. Multiple doctors wanted to put me on an experimental drug regimen, one of which I conscented to. The withdraw from that was an ordeal I will not soon forget. Happily, a little later, as I started to enter the dark world, I was interviewed by a mega-cleared physician who looked for all accounts to be a friendly, southern-speaking country doctor. He knew of my history (though I'm not sure he knew about my TV reporter), and he warned me about what pain medicines (even then) can do to your liver. "I don't know what you are doing now," he said, pulling one of my X-Rays out of a manilla folder and holding it up to the light above him, "but you passed your drug test, so keep doing it."

The other medical backstory is migraines. Everyone wants to put you on preventative therapy. But, yunno, say I plan to live til I'm 90 -- I'm going to be on these things for over 75 years (first migraine = 5th grade)? Really? Long-term effects? What are they?

I offer all this to say I am very leary of pain medication. Yet I do get headaches. Just got over a cluster of them. And in my mind last night, as the one still would not go away, I catalogued my recent past and determined I had not taken any pain meds - OTC meds - since Sunday morning. That's over 24 hours. So that green-lighted me in my mind to maybe ... if I wanted to ... just try ... But I didn't, and I feel fine today.

This is a sincere poll. I'd truly like to know what 1000s of people think about this, and how they think about it. I'd appreciate your consideration and "click".

Thanks for reading.

So, when you have headache, or after being in the "Righteousness Position" (where is that from?) back ache, or after putting someone in that position, backache, or pain in your hip, or your hands, or your shoulders, or those lovely creations called knees; do you ...

-- first try to brave it out and take nothing
-- first consider the last time it happened
-- first consider the last pain med you took and consider what to rotate toward
-- always have a favorite "go to" pain med that you always hold in reserve
-- automatically take a pain med with no worries because it is an "over the counter" product and therefore presumably
-- regularly take a prescription pain med
-- have a selection of more than one prescription pain med that you use
